Default Holset woes - Did I just make a paperweight?

After searching around for a while, I got a good deal on a HX30W Holset. It was a little stiff to turn from sitting, but after letting it soak in oil it spun freely. I was trying to clock it to where I wanted and that's where the trouble began.

I couldn't get the thing to move. I tried oil and prying, and I ended up chipping part of the cartridge. I think the casing can still be used, but what do you think?

I then tried to start taking the cartridge apart and didn't notice that the shaft has left handed threads. The shaft snapped. It still turns freely and quietly when vertical but you can hear something rub slightly when it's horizontal. I assume this is from being too tight because the sound got better when I spun it with my hand a couple of times.

So I obviously need a new shaft. Is this a DIY job or should I start hunting for a different turbo? These turbos are supposed to be pretty reliable and I imagine paying someone to build one would be very expensive.

Please go easy on me. I feel dumb enough already.

you snapped the shaft nut!

best bet here is to get another turbo center section and use your hot and cold sides...

OR

you can just set it on fire and then put it out with pee.

either way messy and another expense.
