Why not score an EJ22 from a mid 90s Legacy (SOHC turbo), then slap on a set of WRX (DOHC) heads? I think the missing link is like EJ18 head gaskets.. but I have heard it's a plug n play solution for a strong yet reliable power plant. All parts should be stateside too, that is if you can find an EJ22 in good condition.

yeah I was thinking of doing that but I wanted to make sick power with the 1.8. Now that Ive done that it is time to move onto bigger and better things. These N/A ecu's are so primitive compared to the newer wrx/sti ecus. I am doing a wrx swap with full harness and all. Its sad to leave the turbo kit family....I almost dont want to.

and yes, it will be a 2.0 all around. But the USDM block and JDM block are far from the same. jdm is forged, closed deck, piston squirters etc. USDM is open deck, and sucky.

love the vids :-) skids are always so much fun! i hope you dont plan to launch like that too often with 4wd, OR have spare boxs that you dont mind swapping in. even the wrx boxs drop 2nd gear quite often. cool project though.

I launch like that all the time...my lighter car is easier on the trans...plus my trans is a quite bit stronger in stock form than the WRX trans.

really, thats interesting. got any pics of this box, or references to its strength? i'm curious. light and low traction on snow or with snow tyres on not snow does help a lot. if you put sticky rubber on, things would change. the diffs in the back are small too. i havent seen a big one on any subby i've looked at. still, the diffs dont seem to give trouble. perhaps just because they arent the weakest link.

I blew my rear diff spider gears two days after I put 215 tires on. I used to have 205s and would mash the pedal and then drop the clutch...itd smoke all four then just go. Well with the stickier tires it squatted then stripped all the teeth off of the spider gears...---- was wild. Trans doesnt make a peep though....stock clutch ftw
