Anyone run the restrictors on Holset Turbos? I'm running the H2A and am still searching for information on the proper pressure and if a restrictor is needed. I'll be running a -4an feed line. Any info would be great.

I am all for running restrictors on all turbos. Turbos in general need very little oil to be properly cooled and lubricated.

Plumb a ball valve in between your turbo and feed. Plumb a pressure gauge between the ball valve and the turbo. Use the valve to lower the pressure 'till your ---- don't smoke...

If i was smart, i would have picked one up at the hardware store from the get go.

Live n' learn.....

I think they were $8. 8 dollars could have saved me a $50 turbo. I dont know how bad the seals are. I know i can get a hot side cheeeeeep right now. My boy in GA has two t25's he was wanting to trade straight up for a cdm hks bov......

damn, if they are any good, thats a deal.

have you tried your blown turbo with a restrictor. i have heard of turbo smoking and then stopping by adding a restrictor. i never had that kind of luck, but its worth a shot

What do i do about the cracks in the hot side? Weld? If that's the case, i WILL weld the ---- up monday if my neighboor scott is in a good mood and wants to trek up to the shop.

They're good ball valves. All brass, solid, they dont leak.

If i wanted, i could problably get freebies from two of my friends that work at the ball valve plant down the road. Conbraco ball valves.....

I would just weld it up. That's an odd place to get a crack though. Do you have a flex pipe or something on it?

I had about a foot and a half of exhaust comming off the turbo and 2 feet of dump for the internal gate. I had ********* telling me they couldn't weld ss to my stock downpipe so i ran it like that until i could get a flange welded on.

I'm running a really, really short tube splog. I already had hairline cracks at and around the wastegate port BEFORE i installed the turbo. I pm'd someone on here about buying their hotside and they never msg'd me back.

It's not that you don't NEED a restrictor on a journal turbo, it's more like you don't WANT one there.

Using one makes about as much sense as using one on the oil supply to your main bearings...

IE not much sense at all. Install one only if you have issues.

Also, make sure your drain is large and free flowing or you will have issues.

In summary,

Install without restrictor and with good drain
If issue : fix drains first
if still issue : install restrictor OR replace turbo with one that isn't fucked.
