larger or shorter gearing for turbo cars?

would a trans with larger gears be better then short gears for a turbo setup?

depends on if you use it for the street or the track

I ve had both a dx and ex tranny on my civic and my fastest times were with the longer geared dx

Is that because you didn't have to shift as much?

there are lots of factors... if you have great traction. shorter gears are always better. but i guess if you get better traction with long gears then you'll run a better time... because of the traction.

With the dx tranny i was able to stay in third until 107mph so i only had to shift twice at the track

1st-36
2nd-62
3rd-107

also allows to build more boost in 1st and 2nd.

on si trannys boost usually goes up w/ the gears.

Si Example.
1st 5psi
2nd 6psi
3rd 8psi

the gears are so short in 1st and 2nd that the engine is at redline b4 the turbo can spool up completely.

The ideal gearing will have you crossing the finish line at redline. You want something that will keep you in the power band with every up shift. I think on my gsr with each shift I drop to about 5500rpm.. you want something that will keep you up in the power band.
