Is there a plain advatge w/ one over the other? How do you adjust the internal wastegate?

It depends on how much boost you want to run.
An external gate keeps more precise control of the boost level, and only opens when it needs to. An internal gate tends to open with the exhaust pressure in the turbine housing...which slows boost response.
Wastegates need to expel more exhaust to keep boost low, so the more boost you run, the less "waste" you need. As for adusting....springs!

"An external gate keeps more precise control of the boost level, and only opens when it needs to."

this is not correct a external waste gate will open i little the same way internal will. you can get an electronic boost controller and it will send no signal to the waste gate till i reads your disered boost.

Beau, they do both open the same way, but he is right the external gate is more "precise" since its using a true valve and the spring is directly on top of it, rather than a wastegate actuator arm just moving a small flapper back and forth.
