Hey all,

I am gonna be slapping on my turbo tommorrow and need to know how much to retard my timing, I will be running a Intank Walbro and FMU. (Which I installed today)I will only be runing 5 Lbs boost with IHI RHB52 and a friend of mine who is a mechanic said that since I am 3400 Ft above sea level (Calgary, Canada) retarding the timing is not nessesary? what do you guys think? Is he right?

 

I would probably not retard it either, maybe a few degrees. The best thing to do is go out and put your car in 3rd gear under a heavy load (low rpms) then start boosting, and listen to see if you can here it Pinging aka Knocking, if it does, then back it down a bit more.

Ok cool, I will try driving it without retarding it and If its pinging I will back it off, Do you think I should use the timing light to be exact or is eyeballing it good enough?

 

I would say use a timing light...

But if you absoulty cant get a timing light, just do very small incriments until it stops..

I have a timing light so I will use it.
