how much should i retard timing?

Default how much should i retard timing?

my setup.

d16z6
mitsubishi teo4h @ 5.5psi
saab smic
type xs bov
stock clutch
12:1 ratio fmu
missing link
open down pipe

how much should i retard my timing>? is 1 mark on the pully represent 1 degree? example:
||| | <---represents white mark as tdc.

what im tryin to say is how do u measure degrees when u retard ur timing do u use each mark as 1 degree?

You should take out 2 degrees at base.

You want the red mark. It is the one in middle of the 3 marks that are spaced together. The red mark should be 16 degrees BTDC.
*edit* I'm thinking that the mark to the left of the red mark is 18 degrees and the mark to the right of the red mark is 14 degrees. So if you want to retard the timing 2 degrees then line up the mark directly to the right mark on your crank pulley with the pointer on the timing cover and that should be 14 degrees btdc or 2 degrees retarded base timing. And make sure your car is fully warmed up with correct idle speed and you have the service connector jumped. Someone please confirm. Here is a stupid picture using my suck *** paint skills.

yea you should be ok at 5psi, i ran 7 on a fmu stock timing. like dutchpug said listin for a knock and go from there.

well im obd2, and im running a ls ecu, thats the only ecu i had since i let my friend borrow the p30 ecu. when i had the p30 it ran like ----, talk about bogs, and lags. when i switch to the ls ecu, and retard timing about 6 degrees , it just ran smooth as hell thru out the rpm. at least this takes out all the bogs and stutter it use to have when i ran the p30 ecu. This time imma set the timing at retard 2 degrees and i'll let u guys know if i feel more power. thanks for the info and picture diagram
