how to loosen turbine housing from cartridge for "clocking" Saab T3?
Hey, I can't figure out how to get the turbine housing loose from the cartridge. Anybody have suggestions?
It's a Saab T3. All of the 1/2" bolts are loosened. I've tried putting it in a vice and heating the housing with a MAPP gas torch, then hammering, and prying. No luck.

I don't know exactly what u gots stuck on that bitch but have you been using lubrication? PB Blaster is an easy off-the-shelf pick if you don't have access to some high grade professional ---- (which now that I'm going back to florida I'm going to get some of that crazy *** hydralic lube - refer to the post where jeff told me that I responded to everything in 3 paragraphs for my story).
Another suggestion for loosening stubborn bolts is vibrations. Impact wrenches offer a great deal of vibrations, but so does hammering the bolt. To take it to the next step, use a chunk of brass and hammer that to the bolt in question. Brass gives off vibrations.

Plus most of the bolts can't be completely removed until the housing is cracked loose. they back up into the center cartridge.
I'll try the PB Blaster solution today. A hammer alone just won't do it, even with the help of a torch. I've tried.
The turbo is from a 1989 Saab 9000. That means it's got 15 years of rust and sh*t holding the 2 pieces togther.

I thought the same thing that you did when I was trying to get the exhaust housing of an 87 Saab t3. My first mistake was trying to get it to rotate, that will never happen. I ended up soaking it in PB Blaster for about 30 mins 3 different times. I put the compressor side in a vise and usd a 5 pound mini sledge hammer. You have to tap it in a circular motion all around a few times to loosen the gunk. Then a few nice hard whacks will pop it off.

getting the bolts off of my chrysler t3 was harder than rotating the housing, I just beat the hell out of it with a hammer. try beating the hell out of it with a hammer, while using the pb blaster spray, while using the torch. the pb blaster spray isn't as flamable as carb spray, so you should be ok.

I used a combination of a lead hammer, mouse milk, aerokroil, oxy/acetelene torch, and some persuasion.
The torch worked best for me. I focused the heat on the perimeter of the tubine housing hoping to expand it away from the cartridge.
Mine required a fair amount of time and energy, but it did finally seperate. I'm sure you'll figure it out soon.
