my turbo failed from using an adjustable restrictor. I accidentally turn off the pressure when I was changing my alternator, and one mile later,no boost, turbo seized. never again.

My adjustable restrictor worked well but I was scared as hell that I would accidentally close it off at some point.
I bought a restrictor fitting and now I'm happy.

anybody worried about the restrictor hole becoming clogged?
It just seems so tiny. But i guess if something was in there that could clog it, you'd prob have bigger problems...

Great write-up. Im making one today...

One more thing... My Oil pressure gauge has a line on it about 1/16in in diamater, but it still reads full 60 or so psi. Any ideas why?
Im wondering if this "restrictor" method is actually limiting the amount of oil, or just forcing it thru a smalller space..

Take a Pressure washer for instance. (or a garden hose nozzle).. If you twist the ****, it still sprays the same amount of water, just at a higher velocity... I would think it were the same way with oil. Granted oil is thicker than water, but still...

A few thoughs:
1) Why would something shipped to Germany not work.. I understand the weeks long shipping deal, but you're just making excuses.
2) JB weld.. Well.. This is HMT. Just remember we're talking perhaps 1000-1200 degrees easily of exhaust temp at the turbo. Plus you're PUSHING oil on that thing.

If you've got a turbo, a turbo has an oil line.. Measuring the pressure can't be easy, but it can be done.

There's a lot of talk of oil pressure and restrictor size. What's the <make damn sure> way to verify that the turbo has enough oil and not too much? Measuring before the restrictor or after? PSI range for journal bearing / psi range for ball bearing?

if you want to make that check in a hmt fashion, you make it idle with the feed hose in a bucket.

And measure what? Volume of oil?
IF that's the case, what should the volume of oil be per unit time?
