Finally finished my setup, take a look, lots of pics

Re: Finally finished my setup, take a look, lots of pics
UPDATE: alright, this thing has been smoking on me real bad when I would come to stoplights, so today I decided to make a restrictor. I half-assed the restrictor and it ended up failing and not letting any oil into the turbo. I also found out today first hand that turbo's dont like not having oil, it made some weird *** popping noise and I got no boost. I took the air filter off the turbo and noticed that it wasnt spinning at idle like it usually does, and stops spinning realy fast if I whap the throttle, and it had more shaft play than an asian guy in a black woman. I ripped the turbo out and took it apart and appears the popping noise I heard was the exhaust turbine hitting the housing. I pulled the wheels off and took the center housing apart, the shaft was coke'd up like a ----- in the red light district, and the bearings look like they got a little toasty. I guess the only good news is that durring the coupple minutes between installing the restrictor and my turbo turning into scrap metal my car didnt smoke at all.
Moral of the story is, put away the jbweld when making your own oil restrictor.

I had one of those turbos that didn't like oil. My alternator wire broke off, hit the SS oil line and the fire sucked ***. But we got a new turbo and life was good. I still have the other turbo and all the other parts if you need them.

Ok so I took it apart and repolished the shaft, and bearings (bushings), and cleaned out all the oil passages. I put it back together and it WORKS! I'm going to keep looking for another turbo but i'm pretty happy about reviving this one from the dead. Still has some bad *** shaft play though. Made a new restrictor and it doesnt smoke ne more either.

nice job on the install!
i am not sure but i think a stock TD04L turbo from the SUBARU WRX could fit on your turbine housing. They sell for super cheap on ebay!
MAybe over boring your turbine housing would be necessary if the wheel is bigger but i think it could make a pretty easy fix to your turbo problems and a small upgrade too...

True HMT work. I've never heard of any one saving a blown turbo like that, maybe because there cheap to replace. Only thing I'd change is the "U" shape in the charge/intercooler pipe, cant you clock the turbo's cold side?
