Does the afc hack need an ignition retard???

Re:Does the afc hack need an ignition retard???
Ubderdata/TurboEDIT = FREE!
Well my stock d16z6 has 9.2:1 compression and it's slow as ---- at low rpms so I wouldn't want to lose anymore low end torque especially since it's my daily driver. I would much rather spend my money on tuning, but that's me. Here is a nice little article on high/low compression honda motors I found... http://www.boosted-hybrid.com/viewtopic.php?t=19

Re:Does the afc hack need an ignition retard???
If I had a motor that redlined at 9000Rpms and was using a 60-trim compressor wheel I wouldn't mind a little higher compression ( or even a little higher than stock ) on a daily car...
BUT...
#1 chipping/modding/tuning those rom editors is not free, nor perfected YET ( They still have "snags" ).
#2 I want a car that can run 13psi, instant boost, no power loss uptop ( 6500-7000rpms for me, B-series guys think they have rotors, not pistons ), and never needs anything more than simple 93oct. Not to meantion a "margin for error in the the tuning department", which I need, b/c I can't spend $250 on a dyno session everytime I change my set-up ( or I'd have a $500 monthly dyno bill ).
#3 If/when the ROM editor are perfected and wrinkle free, I'll be inline for sure !!! I've even went as far as buying a chip for a HMT member that is re-mapped for DSM injectors, but still isn't capible of over the stock Maps limites ( same as AFC HACK ).
#4 I already had my AFC, before it ( AFC hack ) was invented/reallized.
Never seen a 7sec buick V6 twin turbo running 13/1 compression... ( off topic, but still ).
My car runs and boost like a factory turbo car, and I don't worry about it knocking.... EVER.... EVER EVER... I get 5psi at 2200rpms and 10+ ( or more if I want ) by 3000rpms with a POS 2 1/4'' DP that makes a 90 degree angle, and stock 1'' exhuast... No Amount of compression is going to make up for 5psi at 2200rpms...
Again... You/honda guys win.... I should have a dyno plot soon... knock yourselves/engines out....

Well crap I guess that's what I get for making a smart *** comment about mini-me's... consider me owned. That low compression setup seems to be working pretty well for you. Heh, I think we hijacked this thread.
P.S. If I build my Z6 I am going to run higher compression (not too much more than stock) and you can't stop me. :P

Re:Does the afc hack need an ignition retard???
My theory on high/low compression. I have a 2mm headgasket in my D16z6. no intercooler, timing is near stock if not advanced (I have a retard **** on my ignition with the dizzy fully advanced) I run 11psi daily. The o2v is .90 across the board which translates into a good A/F. The lower compression I would reccomend for anybody who is new to the game and wants a higher margin of error to not blow the thing up. You can learn to tune your car yourself. I chose the lower compression becuase I figured I would never build the motor but I wanted to run a higher boost level so it'll make cooler noises (louder BOV, louder spooling) Yeah call me a ricer, ---- you. :P
I could do an experiment on this becuase I have a Mr. Gasket stackable head gasket and it has 5 different compression levels. (highly reccomended) I could take layers out of it and see the difference. But I don't feel like pulling the head off the car 5 times.

Re:Does the afc hack need an ignition retard???
Whitey if i were u, i wouldnt ever reuse a headgasket because i know first hand how fast that sucker can leak but i understand ur point.
Anyways i figured i was gonna use 10.5:1 pistons to help me in my battle to make 300-350whp without having a huge turbo with a lot of lag.
I also wanted to know what u guys think i should do: post the block or get that cool looking STR blockguard
the pattern one). Remember, the block is gonna have to support near 400hp maybe more if i ever get nos.

Re:Does the afc hack need an ignition retard???
I felt the same way about not reusing head gaskets until we reused the same headgaskets 8 times on my buddy's Taurus SHO. He would melt a piston every weekend so instead of actually buying all new ---- we just kept reusing it and it was fine. He always melted the same piston, we had 2 donor motors and we kept taking pistons out of the donor, honing only the bad cylinder and put it back together. That contraption of a motor ran a 12.7

Re:Does the afc hack need an ignition retard???
Well i changed my hg, put everything back together, and then for some reason looked at the floor and saw one of those stupid pins(the hollow pins that keep the head from shifting). So i took everything apart, redid it and then a week later i was right where i started with a leaky gasket and no ride. That was an adventure and a half.
