The general consensus is that they are junk. Ive seen them dead in less than 100 miles, but ive also seen them last 10K miles. Seems hit and miss, but the majority are miss.

They can be made reliable with garrett internals and such, but by the time you get it to that point, and paid for it to be rebuilt, you could have bought a 'real' turbo.

How long does it need to last is the question.

Run the part number. Being a T04B I'm pretty sure it's somewhat down on power for the label "T04", the majority of T04B are the 340-370 whp units sold on Treadstone kits or that BLAAST turns out or else are 60-1, etc. That one might operate in the 400-ish whp range, but the turbine side is huuuuuuge.

the turbine worries me, cuz this will be a RMT set up...with a 312 roller feeding it, looking for 400whp @ no more then 8-10lbs of boost

anyways, this is what i came up with after a quick search;

1976-1986 Navistar DT466A; 466CID16D- 180hp 2WCHP

it always seems to me, that a rough rule of diesel turbos is to get one from a truck having roughly double the displacement...HX35s are on 5.9s & people love them on 1.6-2.4L motors...so i need something from around 10-11L of displacement, that AR turbo is like 7.6L...so i'll guess i'll move on

That Airesearch turbo on Ebay is good compressor wise. It's the V-trim compressor. You could find a JY T3 and use the turbine bits off it so you can have a T3/TO4B v-trim. You'll need a smallish turbine for a RMT.

Why don't you just buy a giant Garrett off Ebay, find a good P-trim turbine wheel and turbine housing (I've got them for ya) and make a T4 with a P-trim turbine and like a 4088 compressor side? Prolly get it done right for $400>. Lots of options like that. Or just buy a TO4S off Ebay for like $110, source a T31 turbine and housing (I got those too) and then build a T3/TO4S?
