If you have the money, get them ceramic coated... But, if your on a budget, just wrap it...

Heres my Heat Wrapped J-Pipe, the diffrence is amazing and once the down pipe is done I will be wrapping that also. . I like the look of the heat wrap, but once I have the $$ ill pull it get it coated and re wrap it. Local place only charges $15/ft to coat inside and out with 2000deg ceramic.

Coatings never do as much as wrap.

With coatings, you can still feel the heat coming off a manifold.

With wrap, I can actually grab the wrapped manifold and not burn myself.
