I would have gone with the d mainly because spare blocks and heads are cheap. Plus the look on peoples faces when they find out they got their ass handed to them by a d is priceless

race gas = $0
i run pump gas. plus there is an exhaust leak between the turbo and manifold that the previous owner didnt know about. no gasket.

yes i bought the car so whats your point. i still know what im talking about here. there are numerous others with this settup making 300+ hp. face it son, its cheaper than an ls swap. max youre going to make on an ls with stock internals 300~hp. ls swap cost more and makes less power. :1 whats your point. you aint gonna win kid. something thats cheaper and makes more power is hard to argue with. anything with a b series is alot more costly than a d.

i vote built D cuz thats what i have!! I LOVE IT!!!! pulls great at just 10psi on a regular t3.....cant imagine how it would be with a bigger turbo, more boost, and tuned to perfection :6

Yeah it costs more and makes less power in stock form. But there comes a transition where you build both motors, and the ls outperforms the d. I didn't say a "built" ls will always outperform a "built" d, but it's a more powerful foundation. That's pretty hard to argue with too.

get a stock ls, whats easier then just having to bolt everything on and go, ---- d series, they are ----, even when you build it thats time down, stock ls=300whp all day long, slap a b16 or gsr tranny on that stock turbo ls and its even better ;D

wow, ok the whole ls cost me $700 with everything to put it in, all i need is a $200 cable to hydro conversion if i cant find anyone to trade me a hydro tranny for my cable tranny. so 900 altogether. a d block, head, gasket kit, pistons, rods, bearings, and studs is up there in price. plus having something with more potential then a d is what made me go with the ls. besides on a stock motor i can make 3/4 of what you make on a built motor. how long is your d going to last on 400whp? no offense but even the previous owner stated he was selling the car because he wasnt sure how long the d would last running 11s all the time. theres stock b18s out there that have been boosted for 5+ years making high ~300whp and dont miss a beat.

but dont get me wrong, i love your car haha.

no offense taken,
the whole motor build including labor for a built d should be somewhere around $1,000, and i can get it built for that if you wish. if you do it yourself figure about half that. so as far as cost is comes pretty close to what youre paying. reliability depends more on the assembly, cleanliness, and tune rather than the parts being used. tune is the most important in my book and i cannot emphesize this enough. the car runs just fine today after 100+ passes being raced. but if youre interested in 300 hp give or take a few then go for it. the ls is a good motor making nice low compression for boosting. its just going to cost more to build or replace any part thats a b series. the voting came pretty close to being split between the 2. so i guess to each his own. im happy with my d. nothing like killing vettes with a single cam.

The problem is your near the end of the limit headwise on a D.

I'm at 300 dollars for my LS swap, axles, tranny, engine, shift linkage, and mounts.


The guy in the vette doesn't car what engine you have.

youre right the stock head does limit hp past redline. but power from 4500 to redline is plenty. nothing a p/p and cam cant handle.like i said the head is stock. along with the tb, intake, and cam.
