I'm sure that controller functions, would have probably made my own with the "they are all the same" approach. There is another thread running around talking about this on the forum.. http://www.gusmahon.org/html/boostcontrol.htm
I'm really not paying attention to the boost gauge while flooring it trying to get traction, but as a rule of thumb on a high HP motor, you have high revs while spinning the tires out, they make the connection to the road -> rpms drop all the way back down (out of the power band) and have to climb.. so in answer - yes

wrong the more you spin the more load you have, your car constantly builds head pressure and releases the compressed head pressure to the crankcase vent valves, in turn expanding the pressure and reburning the excess head pressure(crankcase vapors) back though the engine, load is always looking for spark, fuel, air it needs the three elements to produce pressure(combustion) i would believe that a load factor is purpose of your problem, try this drive your car at normal driving then downshift and punch it, see if it drives nomal and the right amount of boost you want, then duplicate the same senerio that you had a problem with, it sound like to me that you have to much power at takeoff ,,, try toning it down a bit and it might workout for you.....
