Default dumb welding question

I cant weld a brass fitting to an z6 oil pan right? seems like it would just melt the brass.. I'm very new at welding.

I'm tired of little POS oil leaks.

There is no such thing as a dumb welding question, just dumb welders...

Could you weld a threaded bung to the pan and then thread the brass fitting in?

It's a bitch to weld dissimilar metals. It can be done... for a price.... You can braze it with special welding rods or even TIG it with the right gas and wire. There is explosive welding, friction welding, but thats way out of our hands.. :P

what if I welded a metal nutt, I hope they have pipe threaded nutts. Then screwed the pipe threaded copper fitting on the nutt. How does that sound?

Good luck making the two metals stick together. I've added weld to brass before, but never tried to stick anything to it. I would go with one of the other suggestions around here.

I just used a steel fitting i found at a parts store. It's in the section where they sell all the Help stuff and it's was for some sort of cooling system fitting for fords. A -10 line fits nicely over top.
