best head for boost? D16y8? D16A6?
Hey. I blew out the head gasket on my d16a6. I was going to get ARP headstuds, and a metal Z6 headgasket. I noticed the studs are different sizes for A6, Z6, Y8. That got me thinking, if I'm gonna drop $90 on studs, I might as well get the best head while I'm at it. Also, my A6 valves tick like a ****.
Do you think mini-me is worth it? I'd be using the Y8 head. (not into hacking up the dizzy for z6). I hear mixed things about mini-me. Some say you can barely feel the differece. Others say it's real noticeable.
I'd be using TurboEdit to control the vtec.

Well the Y8 head will out flow the A6 stock for stock. I am also choosing to go mini me with a Y8 head. I am going to port and polish it first though. My head studs came today! Fedex delivers on Saturday!

from what i have heard the z6 head out flows both the y8 and a6, the distributor mounting isnt really that bad all i did was cut one of the ears so it was open so i had full adjustability theres only one bolt holding it on but i have had no problems its been like for almost 10k miles, ill post some pics of the way i mounted the dizzy

I have been under the impression that to get the y8 head to flow, the valve seats have to be removed and the short turn welded up. Then you can reinstall the seats and port it.
This is just my opinion from what I've seen. I don't have any flowbench numbers to back me up. If anyone has any numbers I'd love to see them.

i think that the valves in the y8 and z6 are 1mm bigger than the valves in an a6. the y8 head is made more for low and mid range power the design promotes the swirl effect in the combustion chambers for better combustion at lower rpms. the y8 head has the divider in the intake side actually angled to aid in the "swirl" and to port it would be a pain in the ***. the z6 on the other hand has a strait divider that with some work would flow like a mad man, i would go with a z6 head or since you already have an a6 head get it ported and reworked who needs vtec when you have a turbo....
