Some Kia's have 1.8 mazda bp's. And there is a bolt in factory turbo vertion, the bpt, GTX and GTR.

Plus that tranny case looks very Mazda.

The only Kia to use the Mazda Bp engine was the 1st gen Kia Sephia, 97 and older. in 98 it went to the Kia T8D as shown above. Though in 02 they revised the head and intake manifold to get much more flow and torque. I would not even bother working on any T8D older then 02 for that reason. The trans is definitely Mazda based. Similar to the mazda/escort GT trans I am told, but have not confirmed. All I know it has held up to the bashing and everything I throw at it so far. There are no "known" issues with the trans at all.

I think all of the transmission issues are mostly AWD trannies and people that can't drive. I rape the ---- out of my cable clutch g-series (the weakest 2wd afaik) with a 2000lb pressure plate, 6-puck unsprung disc and some UHP tires and it hasn't phased the tranny one bit.

Just a few pics of the manifold progress. All i had was the cell phone, but still wanted to shoot the progress. Once tacked the manifold will be removed from the spare head and finished welding then ceramic coated. The coolant inlet on the block will be removed and replaced with AN Plumbing to go around the Turbo.

the minor cases of crank walk come from the heavier duty clutchs. i have my block machined for the thrust when i did my 10 over bore. all i got to say is welcome to the mazda club kid. i don't care what that valve cover says. also i hope you use the mazdaspeed LSD it s adirect swap and its goign to plant you better then an open diff. the tranny like the motor is a mazda part. so when you say escort people will think ill.

I am. Same with the collector and the rest of the build.

If you think it is a Mazda motor, which one are your referring to then? and which Mazdaspeed LSD ? I'd love to compare actual parts, but simply stating Mazda does not help. The 1st gen Sephia was the BP motor, but it 98 they changed to the T8D, which was revised again in 02. 05 is when they switched to the Hyundai Beta2 in the new Spectras. I'd be curious to see the similarities of the internals to the engine you reference. It may be based on a Mazda motor, but there will not be any parts that swap directly internally.

small update, just some pics of runner #2 fully tacked and fitted. The rest should go pretty quick.

The Mazdaspeed LSD is from the mazdaspeed protege, there's some way to fit it in just about every fwd g-series tranny

Finished a lot of work done this weekend. Missed the local drift meet and took the holiday weekend to get some extra hours in.

Runner # 4 tacked up

Runners 2 & 4 from the underside

All the runners tacked up and runner 1 completely welded.

fitted in the bay

attached the turbo

re-installed it into the bay. getting ready to fit all exhaust, wastgate, IC piping and all the on-car fab stuff.

Installed the compact radiator and taped up the rest of the runners to give you an idea of the final product.
