well if your hanging upside down then yeah. a pedal would be a bitch, but for normal stationary welding, ill take hf start any day

 

Just out of curiosity, How thick do you think most stock engine mounts are ??

And are they, out of necessity, made out of stainless steel and must be tig welded?

With correct welding technique and gusseting, why couldn't a person make their own mounts. If "500 hp" is such a big deal, use a torque limiting strap or a piece of chain to limit engine movement due to flexing.

I have no personal experience with flux core but if the slag is chipped out before making another welding pass, where's the problem?

oh yeah, a "power chain" thats sounds like the best solution...

you can mig it, but youll want a solid machine to do it with, not a harbor freight piece of ----.

 

God no, I was thinking more of an established brand name and with more than 2 heat settings.

If the rubber part of the engine mount has some flexiblity built in, a chain or braided steel strap wouldn't be
that harsh when the mount hits its' limit. I seem to recall at least one big block domestic that used a torque
limiting strap. Maybe it was a mopar, I can't remember...

 

well my budget for a welder is about 400 dollars, im thinking a decent tig welder, like a 135 or 175, somethin between there, im gonna have to run a 220 line from the box because my dryer one is hella old and i dont trust it, might burn the house down. And the mounts are going to be solid, no rubber here, and the wnegine is atleast 600lbs, very ------- heavy, and it will be making ALOT of torque so i have to make sure it wil hold. What im thinking of is getting my z32 tt front clip and cutting up the crossmember and welding it into the s13 crossmember.

 

lincoln 135 is a 110v welder.

everyones dryer plug looks funny, who cares, go to ew and buy a universal kit.
