Hope you get more power to the ground than those dudes. Just didnt seem that fast. Though the aim of that setup seemed to be a lack of rear wheel traction. Best of luck with the project.

Thanks guys- the OFI car is well known amongst the volvo performance guys, it's a pretty neat car.

As Ryan said the the odd thing about it though is they are only running 7" wide wheels with 205s.

Out back I have 10.5" wide wheels with 285's. hehehehe. So I should have a little more traction.

It pissed rain here all weekend so no vids. It's beautiful today, so if I can con someone into helping me bleed the brakes one more time I might have something tonight.

Thanks guys, I haven't bumped this for a while.


I have had lots of teething issues- first dyno trip was only 285whp at 12 psi. Mustang dnyo but still, pretty terrible. Ran out of fuel (had to re-wire the actual fuel sender, the walbro couldn't do it on the stock wiring) and also my cam timing was all kinds of screwed up.

Anyways after some cam timing mods and fixing the fuel, based on my datalog I got to about 350whp at 16psi, better but still not great.

I was frustrated with it and being pretty hamfisted and popped the headgasket though.

So this I see as an opportunity - with the huge 1.00A/R hotside, even with twin scroll I don't really see full boost until 4800rpm.

I think what's happening is with the really mild cams that are in there (stock turbo cam for a luxury car build to have tons of bottom end and little else), it's way off cam by the time I have boost.

Early 90's Volvo 960's cam with a similar 6 cylinder but NA with much hotter cams.

It takes a bit of adapting but I'm going to try to get some hotter cams in while the head's off.


Ah well such is walking the road less traveled. Going to take some experimenting I guess.

I think you're having other problems personally. What does the stock dyno graph look like? When does power start to build, where does it redline?

jesus. He is HARD on that dogbox in that video. No wonder it broke at the end. You can hear it start to chatter around 6 mins from him not rev matching as he drops gears and dragging the *** end around on downshifts.

Aaron, I haven't been able to get much feedback as to what might be happening, if you have any thoughts they'd be super appreciated. I'm pretty frustrated with it.

You mean the stock S80 graph?

It's hard to decipher though, as the ECU is messing with boost pressure, and it is messing with the vvt.

You can see it fall off HARD just past 5000rpms, which around where i really hasve full boost. They come with two very tiny turbos (mitsu tc03's- they're like motorcycle turbos) and they boos tup right away.

Some of the torque falling off might be the turbos.

With my curve the torque/power pretty much follows boost right to to 4800rpm, hit max torque right where full boost is acheived, max power occurs around 5300, then everything crashes. Seems like torque is (volumetric efficiency really) is already falling off really hard by the time I get on boost.

The motor will happily rev to 7500rpm, so I am thinking of using the hotter cams as shown here (these are NA motor power curve of course):

I think those will be a better match, the motor will actually hit peak efficiency while there's actually boost going on.


Seems logical enough... but I agree nonetheless it should still make more power.

But I think the cams could just really be that useless with such a large turbo.

I could probbaly make more power with a smaller hotside as-is, get boost sooner, but Zi';d rather have the top end. hehehehe
