OK, I cheated :)

I don't quite have all the stuff I need, and I'll have to take most of it apart again, but I did a quick dry run to see what it's going to look like because I couldn't wait.

I think It's looking really good, and now I'm debating whether to clean the pipes and just keep them bare, or paint them with high temp paint?

Anyway, thanks for looking.

looks kick ass. pipes do seem a bit off

looks awesome. those pipes need like a matte polish. you could have them put into one of those vibrating polishers but not go all the way to the final polish. that would be badass

+1 it would be a 50/50 polish should fit well into the hole look of the bike, can't wait to see here done.

Actually I was at my father in law's place tonight and I thought he had a great suggestion: Gun-bluing!

Anyone have any experience with this?

dad has gun blued a couple of rifles before. practice on something else first, it took a few tires to get it looking good.

not sure how well it would hold up to the high temp

Actually, if I were you, I'd ditch the weld on hardtail. Keep the swingarm, just get some shorter springs from a rebel to drop it down a bit.

If you haven't seen them before, check out the bratstyle bikes. They are crazy awesome, and really easy to build.

Here's the site, obviously they're a japanese build shop, so I have no idea what the site says, but check the pictures, basically all the bikes are awesome.

http://www.bratstyle.com/custom/custom.htm

Besides that, XS650s have a habit of looking extremely short with the weld on hardtail.

ya already been to bratstyle. thinnk thats what got me goin. did those fork tubes just fit your stock xs650 triple clamp or did i not look closely enough

im probly getting a g&l tail i think they have about 5" of strech. thinkin about using a honda 50 shock for a seat shock

They're actually Kawasaki Forks and triples. I Used the factory Yamaha stem, and modified it to fit the Kawi triples, was a huge pain in the ass.

I finally finished wiring the bike, got the air system all together. So I put together a quick video to show it in action:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=87dtINGpxhU

I think one of the things I'm most happy about is how clean the setup ended up being. It's not all sloppy like it was before, turned out fairly neat and organized, not a lot of extra crap lying all over the place.

Yes, it does air up pretty quickly :)

Here's some pictures of the air setup:

Attachment 9843

Attachment 9844

and a quick picture from the side:

Attachment 9845

I also installed the calipers, hand controls and got some new grips. Was kind of sad to see the blue grips go :)

Anyway, just a few odds and ends need to be ordered to finish up the bike. The last major thing to do is I want to build brake lines for the front. The lines I have were purchased from Ebay and are just too long, they look extremely sloppy, so I want to build some to clean up the front end.

Thanks for looking!

She is, finished! Well, there's a breather hose I have to route, but other than that it's a done deal!

I still haven't decided on the seat. I may or may not put something on there.

I've submitted the bike to be in the central oregon rod and custom show. It's an indoor affair in March. We'll see in a few days if they accept my application or not.

Thanks for all the interest throughout my thread guys, I really do appreciate all the feedback and all the advice. It's been a long journey, can't wait to start the next one!

Sky

P.s. - I should have a riding video up pretty soon. If I can get some help taking the bike off the table :) Also, Friday is supposed to be the only nice day for the next week, so I'm trying to get the bike riding Friday.

Also, That mockup battery has gasped its last gasp. I need a new battery :(

whats the next project?

Re: Not FI but thought you might like my bike buildup...Finished pics 2/25

I think I have somewhere around $3300 total into it.

Next project is going to be my version of Roland Sands' "No Regrets" bike.

Basically, it's going to be a sportbike powered by an air cooled v-twin. I'm going to build the frame for it, put a Yamaha Road Warrior 102ci motor in it, use Kawi ZX10R front and rear suspension. This project actually will be turbocharged, I'm going to run about 8psi and control it with megasquirt. Should be a blast!

I was so stoked the snow melted away so I could ride today. The weather is supposed to be terrible for at least a week after today, so I was really pushing to get a ride in.

Rides just as smooth and cool as I remember!

Also, a quick note on the video, the chain does not normally have that much slack on the bottom when I set it down. I forgot to put it in neutral which allows the jackshaft sprocket to spin, which allows the chain to droop evenly.

looks like youre hugging the tank. seat adjustment.
turned out very sick though.
how much you gonna sell if for. so you can start the next one.

Re: Not FI but thought you might like my bike buildup...NEW RIDING VID

good question. Before I got it painted I had it appraised at a bike shop for $3500, I'm going to try to get it re-appraised for about $5000 now. But that's really for insurance purposes. There's no market for choppers right now, especially metric ones. So I'll probably hold onto this one for awhile.

It's rare that I actually go 100% and actually finish a project before moving on to the next one. So I'm going to bask in the glory of this one for awhile :y

thing turned out sweet you might get some new job offers from custom shops :6 riding position looks funny though i'll have to 3rd that. also looks like you might have overkilled on the air ram size looks like your going to get ejected off it lol probly could of went with a lighter smaller one

over all i give it a 10 for building it mostly from scratch

96turboracer 03-07-2009 11:55 PM

Yippee!

So I got accepted for the show today! Should be a pretty cool deal, I go to set up on Thursday night, and the show goes on FRI, SAT, SUN. It's an indoor show

I'm pretty excited obviously, because this is my first show ever. Should be a really fun experience.

The show goes from 3/20 to 3/22 and be assured, I'll be taking plenty of pictures!
