What he means by pushing is to aim the feed of the wire in the direction you are welding. This way the gas/heat/wire is always moving into the puddle.

As for 6011: I don't think he is ARC welding this 2tone.

For flux it's not to shabby! Flux can be a bitch to set right. You want as much heat, with little wire but too little makes a mess and too much makes a mess. It' hard to tell a guy how to set for flux core.

Push, have the gun agled so the wire is pointed towards where you are going. Like you are pushing the wire into the metal. This will help get more heat into the work piece.

i dont think you can do it like this with flux core. i know with my arc it would get a bunch of slag in the weld

I was just elaborating on someone else's mention of 6011, i thought because he mentioned it thats what the welder was using.

I'm gonna go out and weld another joint....I thought maybe these pieces had some coating or something on it and since I didn't grind/prep the metal like some say you should, well...

Any updates?

Remember that prepping the metal is very important. Most bar stock and thicker sheet metal are hot rolled. This process creates a coating referred to as mill scale. If you don't sand this coating off you will have a very hard time getting proper penetration.

I am by no means an expert, but i have had some formal welding instruction.

That might be a possble problem I'm having, it does look like a layer above the metal. No updates just as of yet, but I'm going to pick up my metal I had cut over the weekend for a little welder cart project I planned. I'll try grinding the layer off the metal and welding it together tomorrow...

hey, dont know where u live but alot of the community colleges have welding classes.. you might go take a welding class.. REALLLY helped me..
i've been welding for 3 quarters now.. here's the turbo mani i tig welded.

cleaning, and beveling and pointing gun in direction you're welding helps
i havent done much mig welding.. i prefer tig.. but u do with what you have

oh and the nice thing about taking welding at CC is you use their equipment and materials to learn on instead of using your own stuff which wire and gas costs $$ the class does cost $$$ but to me the experience is worth it.
