homemade Sportscar,with a turbo.

OK so it's the same as all the others I've built, so nothing new about it, other than that it's ... well a new un-used manifold... actually it's not done yet.... so it's better than new. ;D

just that I've not posted for a while, so here goes.
http://www.sr20forum.com/gallery/dat...n0242_1024.jpghttp://www.sr20forum.com/gallery/dat...n0244_1024.jpghttp://www.sr20forum.com/gallery/dat...n0245_1024.jpg

It's on the SR20-DET motor in the Neo1 I'm designing and building.

That Diahatsu is crazy! Good work. 8)

p.s. you can't see the large size pics of the mani unless you are sr20forum member.

Re: New Turbo Manifold

looks great. what is this project car? I see it's rear engine mounted. I also notice the threaded piping sections added on. Are you going to run coolant through part of the cage?

#Rotor 01-20-2007 03:13 PM

Re: New Turbo Manifold

yes, those are the tubes running the coolant to the front mounted radiator.

here is what it looks like so far...

that looks awesome! sweet garage project. HMT ATOM
did you have someone else bend the sides and front dash bar?

#Rotor 01-20-2007 04:03 PM

Re: New Turbo Manifold

yes, It's loosly based on the Atom's looks, but is completely re-designed. I designed the frame in Auto-Cad, then had it all Laser cut to size, the bent tubes also got CNC'ed by a company near by.

Re: New Turbo Manifold

dude, theres no way thats going to work...you definetely need all 4 exhaust tubes going to the turbo.....

idiot.....

Re: New Turbo Manifold

Oh... crap, something did look a little odd there for a while......... then again, i'm a lazy ass, I'm a NOOB, and it's my car, I can build it like I want it.... >:D

besides I'm only going to be using those 2 pistons, the other two is going along just for Shits and giggles...

haha, seriously though man it looks real good. Know what the power or weight will be when finished?

#Rotor 01-21-2007 12:15 AM

Re: New Turbo Manifold

power levels approaching the 250kw on the wheels mark. I'm trying for 500Kg, so I'll probably end up with 600kg. which is ok for this prototype. Once we go to production, lot's of aluminum will be involved, not to mention carbon fiber and Kevlar... so hopefully then a lot closer to 500Kg's

Re: New Turbo Manifold

Be weary of using CF, CF-K, or K when you don't need the outright strength of them. They're much stronger, and much heavier per thickness than fiberglass. Most people don't realize the latter.
If you're just making panels. Save your money & go fiberglass unless you just have to have the look. (Which I think is getting silly at this point.)

Re: New Turbo Manifold

absolutely ------- ridiculous

#Rotor 01-21-2007 01:19 PM

Re: New Turbo Manifold

indeed yes. mostly it will probably be for looks, there is not a hell of a lot of covers on the car anyhow. but things like the dash, which is going to be VDO fitted, will be a Carbon Glass Hybrid, basically one top layer in CF and supported with 2 or 3 layers of glass, just to get rid of the flimsiness, purely for looks.....

the tub, however will have to be much stronger, structurally, so there I will probably go for the Kevlar hybrids, very much stronger than just glass, pound4pound. thus for the same weight it can be much stronger. Unfortunately the Kevlar is not UV stable, so it goes dull after a while, a real bummer....

TA. ^-^

It's the std Nissan Trannie that comes with the engine, with a couple of small improvements, copper clutch and LSD upgrade. I still need to figure the gear linkage on it, it's solid, and now with the engine in the rear, things are going to get real interesting....

here is the engine getting fitted... note that these pics are not in chronological order ...

yes...... That poor car, I started on her in 1994.... got to about 97% completion, then life started throwing me some nasties and I just never seem to get time lately to even just look at her... Hopefully Soon I shall be able to get more time for her....

here is some updates on the actual manifold.... allmost done with it....

I'll make sure I'm not the first one to drive it then , should fix that problem, once someone else took it for a spin the first time it should be fine.... :y

here is a close-up of the weld on that bellcrank...
http://www.sr20forum.com/gallery/dat...46_closeup.jpg

what must a weld look like for it not to brake at all. I spotted this thing together, with 3 spots a side, and I had to dislocate a collarbone to get the damn thing apart again, grinding and all...and that's with just a couple of teensy little spots

Gees, I never realized how ugly a battery actually is. Trying to get a nice spot for it, but no matter where, it's ether right smack in a spot where it spoils the looks, or it's where there's too much heat for it... found a spot underneath the dash though....

You are a ------- mad-man! I love it! To see someone actually doing this is awesome! I always wanted to make a mini Champ Car or something along those lines. I have the creativity to make one and figure out how to make things work, just dont have the skills for welding and fab work on that level.

Just make a cover for the battery if you can still see it where you put it. Yeah nobody likes to see a battery.
