is this galvanized?

 

looks like normal exhaust pipe. Galvanized has that press board look to it like a fence post.

 

It's aluminized piping.

 

huh.. so its safe to weld?

i thought all those little exhaust adapters you can buy at auto parts stores are galvanized and it looks like those.. so those adapters are safe to weld to then?

 

galvanized tubing is safe to weld as long as you dont breathe the fumes. it also helps to grind the galvanizing off of the part in the area you are going to weld. then there is no worry

 

right. you can weld that fine. if you have a mig, just have at it. grind that aluminized coating if you're going to tig.

 

if its aluminum it wont be magnetic and it will be a dull silver, stainless wont be magnetic either but will weigh a lot more and will be a shiny silver, anything galvinized will be a dull silver with usually criss cross lines going all over when you look close. after you seen all three you can tell by look, wieght, and magnit test.

 

also dont be afraid to weld just allitle galvinized pipe. its not going to kill you like everyone says. just dont go off making a living welding galvinized pipe.

 

just make sure its outside, metal fume fever is a very real thing.
