Here's the thing, how cheap does it need to be?

You can get some cheapo ching chong timers on ebay for about $24 shipped.

Or you can spend about $12 (half that price is the relay) at radio shack and have one that is adjustable with an off pushbutton.


If there is enough interest in the radio shack version, I'll post a schematic and all the parts you need to get at your local radio shack, so chime in.

Also, you would need a soldering iron for this project.

um.. looks like your diagram is trying to have the capacitor hold power to the whole ignition system. If i were you id punch inline and see how many amps it pulls continuiously. Cause your gonna need one big ass capacitor to hold charge for that much power. Maybe even a flux capacitor lol. jk. The way the turbo timer works is when you turn the key off it switches power to the circuit which holds power from the battery until the circuit shuts off. having a capacitor that only has to supply 10ma for 1-15 minuites is alot easier and smaller capactor then trying to hold 5amps for 1-15 min. do the math Power = current * voltage. Your way might hold power for 1 millisecond, unless your using like a 10 farad cap that costs alot more then a turbo timer.

you cant ghettoize the turbo timer anymore its already super cheap on egay. considering the components it has in it. 25 bucks is a good deal.

He's using the cap to keep the relay shut which keeps the circuit live. The problem is that the cap will only supply about 5 seconds of power to the relay. You have to use a transistor to drive the relay i unless you want to use a really huge cap. A 555 timer would work a lot better in this situation.

I'm building a similar circuit for a timer to keep the fans running after the engine dies. I'll post it, but it will be weeks from now. I'm traveling for a while tomorrow.

i think i figured out the 555 timer and everything and from the looks of it i think i could build one for about 3 or 4 dollars thats adjustable and has a push button off switch. ill see if i can find the schematic i made... hold up

i remember that i did make some changes to it after i made this but it should be kinda close, if im actually using the 555 timer correctly which theres a good chance im not. this is the simplified version that is not adjustable

the positive is 12v constant.
ground is ground obviously
output goes to factory siwtched 12v.
s1 is a switch that when pushed opens the ciruit
