I guess this thread was about making a cooler set up not you bitching about buying a premade kit. so get the ---- out the thread. enough said.
have you ever made anything in your life or do you just buy it so it is "perfect". ---- man this is HMT. if i wanted your shitty opinion on buying a $500 cooler then i would have bought one already and saved everyone's time on this thread.

I'd recommend a torch like this:

Also 12-15' torches can be pretty limiting, especially if you weld directly on vehicles. But if you can make it to work it does save a bit of money (I think around $50 cheaper than a 25').
I understand you want to make your kit and all that, I am just saying that you aren't going to get a decent torch and cooler all done up for less than $582 IF YOUR TIME is worth anything to you and you are at all practical and efficient.
I actually make lots of things in my life, I've built houses, I wired my whole last shop, I wire in all my machines, I cnc machine all my own parts, I do all my own engine machining, head porting, I've built a flow bench, I am building an automated tig welding machine with cold wire feeder right now. I've installed my own automotive hoists, I make lots of custom machined specialty tools, tubular manifolds, exhausts, tons of sanitary process piping, built large brewing systems... I could go on all day. But one thing I don't do is build parts or equipment that someone else does for cheaper than I can make a similar quality unit for. But my time has a $ figure attached to it. So should yours if you want to learn how to save money.

Re: custom water cooled torch?
You know the one thing you'd be missing that all pro torch coolers have?
Badass twirling flow-meter so you know the pump is working without a blockage... Ofcorse... You'd pretty much know that anyway provided you were anywhere near the torch....
I Got you covered!
Aquarium flow meter!
Ya... Doesn't spin around all kewl like a miller one. But think about how many LED's you can put in that! Be sure to use that UV dye too so you can do some UV CCFL's!

Re: custom water cooled torch?
Yeah I get that this is HMT, notice I was the first person to mention running total loss system using your garden hose, how much more ghetto do you want to get?
Oh and another thing to look out for are used coolers on ebay. They can come up for under $150 now and again for the non big name ones like miller and binzel (same cooler really).

Re: custom water cooled torch?
I half agree with Passenger and half disagree. Since the OP welds a decent amount, he should end up with a product that is built well and isn't some ghetto fab hunk of ----. In the same breath, there is nothing keeping the OP from making a high quality part himself and saving some money. Running cool water through a tig torch isn't science. It's a water pump, a radiator, tank, and a fan. Not much you can do wrong.
