custom water cooled torch?

does anyone know how to set up a water cooled torch on a sync 200. I'm so sick of my size 17 torch. it is so big it is hard to get in some area's.

i got a price on a complete torch setup w/15 ft. line $100

now you guys think i could get the best built for cheap.

a conversion kit is like 700-1000 online. ---- that.

If I understand right, you have a DRY wp17, and you want to go to a smaller watercooled setup.

You'll have to get the torch, and a cooler. There's nothing really to convert, you just replace your torch and put the cooler inline. It's about like adding a VCR to your cable/tv setup. You simply put the vcr inline between the cable inlet and the tv.

Some people have rigged up their own water coolers though. If you're cheap enough, you may be able to save some money like that. I've read some things online aobut guys using a small pump, a 5gallon bucket, a small radiator, and a fan.

I'd rock a nice heatercore with a fan on it.

i was thinking el'cheapo large trans cooler with a fan, then fabbing up a coolent tank out of AL. sound good?

but what worries me are the fittings to the water line?

is it just a barb fitting?

also what size/ flow rate should the pump be.

planning on getting a size 20 flex head. can't remember the part number the guy looked up.

fittings dont matter, if you cant find the coresponding fittings just cut them off and use barbs. flow rate isnt specific either, you just dont want it so slow that it allows the torch to overheat. i think if you overheat a watercooled torch the power lead breaks. a washer fluid pump probally flows enough to keep it cool.

Cheap and probably better than anything you will put together yourself, no offense. For a hobby welding this is all you would need, IF you log 8hrs of arc time a day on your machine you gotta spend the bucks to get the industrial stuff.

well i weld anywhere from 4-8 hrs on average a day depending how busy i am. and so far my air cooled torch is holding up. but it is just to damn big to get the correct torch angles on curtain things i'm welding.

why would a home made set be so different then one you buy for $500+

Because you aren't gonna be making your torch and a good 250amp watercooled torch is gonna cost you around $250 with 25' lines. So half of the $500 is your damn torch anyways, if you spend another $150 on parts you are going to have a ghetto setup, for another $150 you could have something clean and professional looking. That's just how I would do it (already done it). I have a friend that runs his well water through his torch at his home shop and just lets the return line drain all outside. Too ghetto for my liking but it does work.

Big heatercore + eheim pump + random 120mm 12v computer fan + 12v random wallwart transformer.
Plug the pump and transformer into the welders 110v outlet if it has one.

If you don't like ghetto... Spend like... $30 online and mount it in a nice computer case or something. Yeah that's what we all want to see. A tig torch cooler with neons & stickers!

i was qouted $100 for a 15' line and flex head torch. you forget i live in a small town, where our prices arn't stupid expencise for no reason, hell i bought my new sync 200 runner for $1700 shipped.

I guess this thread was about making a cooler set up not you bitching about buying a premade kit. so get the ---- out the thread. enough said.

have you ever made anything in your life or do you just buy it so it is "perfect". ---- man this is HMT. if i wanted your shitty opinion on buying a $500 cooler then i would have bought one already and saved everyone's time on this thread.
