Actually, it makes perfect sense. I might go one step further and grab a can of zinc chromate from work. Its the suff we use when assembling helicopter main Heads and anything that turns. basically, all bolts, nuts, bushings, etc get a coating of zinc chromate. then you install while the coating is still wet. When It dries, it provides a layer of moistere sealent as well it acts like a thread locker/adhesive also.

So if you paint the pipes and install while it is "wet", when it dries, it forms a seal AND acts as a adhesive.

Dude, take some solid 1/16" - 1/8" wire/tube/filler rod and bend it around the IC piping and make a few tacks. Probably cost you less than $10 in materials to do it this way.

i usually run steel piping so the paint really helps stick to the coupler with a t-bolt. This setup will probably have a bead welded around the alum pipes.

The only thing more ghetto than that is painting you PVC IC pipe and having the coupler stick.
