Im coming close to finishing my project and people are saying to get all my pipes beaded. but the problem is, a) there is no one in my area that can do this and b) I don't have the money to buy the tool to do this myself!

So I am asking if I am only going to run a MAX 9 pounds boost and all clamps will be high grade T-bolt clamps, Do I REALLY need to think about beaded pipe ends right now.

I understand when you get into the 10+ area, this is needed. But for I have, Can it still work, or should I just sit on my project and wait to get the tool to do this?

Please people, I am only days away(seriously) from starting up my Jeep with the turbo in!

AS for tack welding, the material is thin wall aluminum. and my welder is not set up for aluminum, and I have NEVER welded on aluminum before. BTW I do have alot of leftover scrap aluminum I can practice on?!

Any other great Ideas. But I believe his suggestions are on the the MONEY!

You can hammer the pipes on the inside with something dull and round. Make a few dimples all around the inside of the pipe.

 

i welded up a old set of vise grips and made a true hmt tool for beading a little welding and grinding in the right places and it works perfect

 

take a metal coat hanger or some filler rod, tack the end then wrap it around the pipe tack it in a few other places and ur set.

 

Go find someone with a BeadForm tool. We have one at the shop and its ------- amazing. I bead roll everything I make now for them.

 

I would go ahead and get the ends beaded. My first turbo set-up I just used hose clamps and t-clamps. Anything over 15psi , I was blowing charge pipes. I blew a pipe at the LAST IDRC event in Palmdale. I was pissed and told myself never again. Everything gets beaded!

 

thanks everyone for these great ideas. One Idea I was thinking was prepping the surface with 80 grit paper, then applying epoxy around the ends.

I could always try the coat hanger idea.

But I will look for someone with a bead tool in my area. Maybe I will get lucky. we will see

Genn4acclude: can you be more specific on your technique. vice grips are cheep for my budget. Im interested

 

The easiest way would be to use an adjustable wrench to flare the edges out. My couplers kept blowing off untill I used the wrench to bend the edges out.
