What timing! I got my willems in the mail today and then the couple or so times I come to the EM forum I see this right away!I was like when I opened my box and just had a usb and serial cable and the burner and nothing else and was "oh ----! What the hell do I do with this thing now? lol" What a life saver! Good going Kev.

I've searched for a fix and haven't had too much luck. A few posts came close to it but never really solved my problem.

I am using 0.97g software with an SST27SF512 chip. It doesn't ID the chip which I've concluded doesn't terribly matter. It erases fine and loads the bin file fine. When I burn the chip it comes back with an error:

"Error at 0x000000 Chip = 0xFF buffer = 0x01"

With the setting to 'Willem' the DIPs are backwards and I've tried setting them to the picture and according to the numbers. Neither have worked.

Would switching to PCB3 solve my problem?

You need to adjust the jumpers. They are still in the position to erase. You should reposition them like in picture number 8 on page one of the illustrations or you can remove the outer one and leave the inner two in place.

I attempted both ways. Removing outer jumper after erase and switching erase jumper to AM29C256 setting. No success.

Anyone else using SST chips? What steps did you follow? All I can find is Projekteg's and Green's writeups and both use AT29c256 chips.

You are using the wrong setting for your chip. You need to identify the chip first.
1. click on device
2. click on EPROM Electrical Erase
3. click on SST27SFxxx
4. click on SST27SF512

Make adjustments to the twelve white keys on the burner based on the picture after you've identified the chip. Note the numbers on the screen is in reverse order to the ones on the burner. Moving left to right, on the screen the numbers run 12 to 1 but on the burner it is 1 to 12. Check at the top of the screen if it shows PCB3. If it does, click on it and it should change to Willem. You are now ready to erase and burn.

I'm back with more questions. Well the same one really.

Okay, so I am pretty familiar with computer equipment and I can follow directions well but I'm missing something here. I went thru that thread about the other guy who had probs with his SST (his burner was different than mine incidentally) and no luck. I even walked away for a day to clear the head as xenocron suggested.

I even added the 8000 offset, which I'm not sure is necessary or not. It seems logical.

I tried different combonations and changed up the bin I was burning and still the same error.

My LPT port is set to ECP+EPP (whichever it is but it's the one with two) and I don't believe I have TWAIN drivers running.

In the picture under the other post xeno was under PCB3 instead of Willem. I've tried that also.

When burning under Willem, you set the DIPs by the numbers right? Regardless of orientation on the screen you turn 12 to the OFF position and not just up to resemble the picture?

This contraption shall not defeat me!!! Try again tomorrow. Thx for the help so far, I'm sure it's something small.

Have you tried the 0.97j software?
