some chips don't id. what speed are they? i can never get the slower atmels to id properly, but they burn/verify/read and work fine. if your only problem is not being able to id the chip, it's not a big deal at all. as long as you can read the chip back after you program it, it's fine.

IDK what speed they are....i know it matters when they are in the ECU but does it effect burning?

what's the exact number on the top of the chip? and no, unless they're incredibly slow, you won't notice much difference in programming/erasing them. i've used 250ns chips that burn fine and run fine in the ecu, and those are pretty ------- slow in comparison to the regular 70-90ns chips.

Not really sure. My dads DSL is faster than my cable too. But this is terribly off-topic.

Nice write-up teg. Went to a maotes for ease in the car with one cable, but you make it easier for people to save a little $$ and still get what they need.

I just bought a Willem dual power burner from www.mcumall.com. I use a AT29c256, so I followed this write up, but it's not working, it won't recognize the AT29c256.

I tried to switch Willem to PCB3, did'nt work. Tried several DIP configuration. When I click "Electonic ID", sometimes it show me "-----" and sometime it show "Sanyo", but never an AT29c256.

I think I've setup burner properly, jump pin #3 and #31, when I test hardware, it show "hardware present". When I try to programm chip, I got an error: "Write sector 0"

The chip was already burned on another burner (don't know wich one) and it work on my car. Just want to put a new .bin on it, but I can't program chip.

Do you have an idea what i'm doing wrong? Or maybe burner is not working properly? Could you tell me if there is something to do to test burner?

For the moment, I got only 1 chip, so I can't test with another one...

Thanks

On mine it doesn't recognize it as at29c256 either just that silly ----- icon, just make sure it doesn't say sanyo and if it does your jumper is mostlikely too big or too small. Let the jumper(#3) touch pin 1 of the CHIP and that will ensure a proper jump (with #31). If you're burning and it gives an error, again its just the jumper. General rule for me is if you can read the .bin and open it properly then you will be able to erase and burn the chip. If it still doesn't work go through the write-up again carefully and make sure your BURNER board jumpers are correct and that you set the dip switch like in the pics up top.
