Doing solder work is very calming to me. When I had my day job I could come home and sit there for a few hours and bang out a couple ECUs with the sucker and braid. Darkness turned into light when I bought my first desolder station, wow...what a difference. Cleaner and easier...for me it made sense. Probably close to 1000 ECUs now it well paid for itself, I actually bought a 2nd station a while back :)

I was never really in to using braid on circuit boards. I had a weller desoldering gun for years, until I started doing ecu's. Then it just made sense to get something more professional. PLUS the weller used really expensive collection tubes and tips.

What equipment do you use, Chris?

Pretty much the same for me. If I did any volume like Chris or others do I would invest in something better obviously.

Remember that time I had you chip an ecu for me because I thought my soldering was bad. And then after I got the ecu back that you chipped for me and I still had a solid cell. Then you figured out I had my chip addresses screwed up the whole time!!! that sucked I wasted a good ecu desloderiing and soldering on the board ,the first one I ever did thinking I couldn't solder.

remember kids start in hex 08000 and end in hex 0FFFF for a 27sf512 :1

Yup, check around though. That price is way too high. I got mine locally at Fry's for $119 on sale. That was about three years ago though, but I think Hakko lists them for $159.

Also make sure it comes with the case. The case is very nice, yes yes. I've seen some places that sell them without it.
