I also add solder to the two bastard holes, and then hit it w/ the braid again. Works well.
After awhile you will get better at using the braid, and the best way to position it.
I used to cut the chips out of OBD0's w/ a dremel.
Now I can get em' out clean w/ just the braid, and no ripped traces.

With the braid I like to insert the pin into the weave then lay my soldering tip on the braid. I also jump around on the chip so I don't over heat one section of the board. Just have some patience, play with it, and you'll get it...
I still use a dremel on pre chip ecu's have gotten a couple obd1 lately with them. Anywho also I like to do maybe 5-6 holes then let the iron rest for a little to get all that heat back works like a charm.

Not everyone. I make good money doing it, and that's just local. These have been paid for many, many, many times over. Gotta use pro products.
