Default SMC settings after install

what is the best way to go about tuning my car until i can get it to a dyno after i do the install? im using the regular SMC which goes in 1500 rpm increments, will have an A/F gauge as well as an EGT gauge.

should to start i just back down timing w/ the distributor and basically have the SMC set full rich and back it down slowly while watching the A/F gauge and EGT gauge?

Thats the way I would do it. You'd rather have it rich than lean man. Keep an eye on all your guages and settings and eventually you'll get it to where it will work for you.

Thats how i would do it too. Watch those gauges. and check your plugs. And it would be a good i dea to turn back your timming on the dist.
