This was my thought. Depending on were the Remote board ismounted you could have no extra lenght at all. I was even think of right inside the ECU

But the chip would be on the remote board. To program you would just connec tthe remote board to the Burner, erase and reprogram with the car off. Basically just save from pulling chips out all the time. just pull the cable out from the dash, or better yet, flush mount a connector in the dash hook up and burn. I was just unsure if reprogramming a chip while still hooked to the ECU could do anything. Of course the car would be off, but voltages are still be realyed pass the chip to the ecu.

Pretty sure that wouldnt work...just like you cant upload to a ROMulator/Ostrich with the car in the off position if its connected to the ECU.

I think this is a great idea.

I don't like having my ECU sitting on my floor and getting kicked all the time by passengers, but I have learned to live with it I guess.

It would be nice to mount the ZIF socket in the glove box or something so I can change the chips out without opening up the ECU. What would it take to mount a ZIF socket to the other end of one of those cables?

Man this is a great idea. i would love to do this beacuse i hate always pulling that cover off and having my girlfriend complain because the ecu is in the floor.

have you seen the instructions on how to modify the ostrich so you can upload with the car off? Craig Moates posted them on his site now

I might play around with it. If if I just remote munt it. I just got my PCB etching supplies back so I might try a nice clean setup if I can find the cables locally.

My fiance hate the ECU on the floor.

You can do it without a problem. You just have to make sure that the cable is not too long. I have seen this done a few different places, I also think that 4' is too long of a run. I wouldn't run it more than 1'-2' I think the interference would be too much for it.

I was just going to move to the side of the center console, the Passenger Kick panel, or to the glove box, just so the floor can stay where it is.
