Remote mounting eeprom, can it be done?

Remote mounting eeprom, can it be done?
After seeing my buddies Ostrich and thinking a little, I was wondering if it is possible to remote mount the eeprom away from the ECU? Would there be any ill effects in basically making an extension cable that has one male end that would plug into the ZIF socket on the board and another ZIF socket on the other end to accept the chip? I would like to make the chip easily accessable to do quick changes when tuning, but I don't want my ecu laying on the friggen floor of the car all the time. Would there be too much on of a voltage loss over the length of the wire? Anybody ever tried this? I was thinking of either mounting it in the flip down coin tray or in the ashtray.

there was someone selling Plexi ECU covers w/ a cutout over the socket. that way you could keep your ecu bolted down and still get at the chip. just leave your carpet pulled back while tuning

----, so the only way I can get it to work is to make my interior really ugly?? LOL J/K I know, most think it is a dumb idea, but I am sitting here (at work) messing with TE and EC and I want to try datalogging with EC on an NA car, so I am attempting to put together rom with the stock maps in NG60 code. I wanna be able to run out to the car at any point and be able to test a bin without having to rip ---- apart. I cannot stand the ghetto ecu laying on the damn floor with the cover off. Basically, I am trying to learn how to use this ---- during the "in between times" at work. I think haviing this mounted remotely would make it easier. My concern is signal loss over the lenght of the wires. I think I am gonna have to search pgmfi to see if I can find that thread Chris is talking about.

Naw, It didn't make his interior ugly, he had it painted blue and white. I was going to do the same thing using the same type of cables that an Romulator uses. I just haven't gotten around to it.

You could do something fancy with a Radioshack board, and a few sockets and IDE cables.
I dont think you'll have any issues with voltage drops unless the wires are longer than 4' or more.

you could actually use on of these cables..

maybe get Craig to add an extra socket so you can mount it to a Radio shack board or something of the type.
