Default ignition retarding?

why do you retard the ignition for boost if you lose power. I mean i know it adds life to any setup but why? I always thought you would retard the boost to gain horsies when boost I guess it pretty much explains itself but you know I am just wondering why lose power retarding the ignition, when you can leave it stock and just fly!
