ignition retarding through a controller (distributor gurus please look)
I'm looking at the crane engine retard controller. I'm curious if anyone knows any details on the timing delays for retarding the ignition.
This is what i'm thinking, but I could be way off. The key to retarding would be to know the current speed of the distributor and delay the firing by Xms based off the desired retarding. I'm guessing the Xms delay would be caculated based on the speed of the distributor otherwise the degree of retarding would change at different rpms.
Any distributor Gurus here?

Why not get a scope on the inputs and find out?
I think your right, you have a 2 dimensional retard table and delay the firing trigger for any number of mS. The difficulty will be working out what speed the dizzy is rotating at, i'm guessing the rev counter on a honda is run from some kind of dizzy output, but it might also be from the CAS.
