Re:Ghettodyne 2.2.1 w/ boost officially working

"what do you guys think is better?? this ghettodyne setup or the afc hack??"

If the ECU already has the ability in the first place, why not let it now?

I'd rather pay less and have the ability to tune ignition, fuel, launch control, idle, rev limit, etc.. my goodness what gets better than that? Mike (and others) have worked "xtensive"ly on this :)

Re:Ghettodyne 2.2.1 w/ boost officially working

GhettoDyne 2.2.1 MiniFAQ v.01

Q. What ECUs will ghettodyne work with as a one-chip drop in solution?
A. 90-91 PM6, 90-91 PR4, 90-91 PM7, 90-91 PS9, 90-91 PR5, 90+ PP5 (rover with Cat) The key here is that the ECU has a 256k external EPROM.

Q. Are there other ECUs that ghettodyne will work with?
A. 88-91 PM8, 88-89 PM6, 88-89 PM7, 88-89 PG7, 88-89 (nocat) PP5 (and maybe others) will work fine too with an adapter board. This is much more of a pain in the ass - see pgmfi if you care enough.

Q. Does ghettodyne support ______ ECU not listed above, like my P28 or P72?
A. No.

Q. Will ghettodyne ever support ______ ECU not listed above, like my P28 or P72?
A. Probably not.

Q. Ghettodyne doesn't run right it gives me some dll or ocx error!
A. See www.ghettodyne.com for troubleshooting help

Q. Does Ghettodyne support logging?
A. The GhettoTunes have provisions for datalogging at 9600 baud. A companion program, ECUControl, can support a limited amount of datalogging. It is a work in progress (i.e. NOT FINISHED AND NOT TOTALLY WORKING) so don't throw a ---- fit if it isn't logging your favorite sensor.

Q. How does the boost portion of ghettodyne 2.2.1 work?
A. This release includes the "GeorgeHack" or digital MAP-hack bin. This bin preserves the stock 17x15 table size present in the stock ECU but changes the range of the stock table by digital scaling the MAP signal by 5/8, so you can map just about to the end of the stock MAP sensor's range (10psi). GhettoDyne 2.2.1 is functionally very similar to using a AFC or SMIC or LMN7803 or whatever the ---- you use to cut the map voltage.

Q. Why use GhettoDyne 2.2.1 instead of a AFC or other hardware-based maphack?
A. Easy. Two big reasons: 1: A chip and some software is a lot cheaper than an AFC or SMC (but maybe not cheaper than a 7803) 2: You can tune timing with ghettodyne 2.2.1 so that the car is not excessively advanced under NA conditions and the desired amount of timing retard under boost is present.

Re:Ghettodyne 2.2.1 w/ boost officially working

I made a custom tune today and it's freakin' awesome. Launch control is set to 3000 rpm, and I gave it more fuel above 4 psi above 4000 rpm or so and my Lord it's awesome. It doesn't ping whatsoever and it's not too rich... it's great.

Make sure that you 5-6 people getting chips from me let me know what rpm you want launch control set to.. I think 3000 is perfect.

Re:Ghettodyne 2.2.1 w/ boost officially working

Hey, what do you guys think about setting up a GhD sharing site, or me putting a section on GhettoDyne.com for sharing custom tunes?

Also, there is a version still in the works for a higher resolution version that will also support 2bar and 3bar sensors with no MAP scaling whatsoever. But hey, it supports boost now which was the main missing ingredient.

I'm working on an installer that will register all the necisary ocx files that XP seems to bitch about so much, for those who recieve errors. A workaround some have found is to install ECUControl (www.ECUControl.com) and that fixes the errors (plus that is the program you need to datalog!). If that doesn't fix it email me @ support@GhettoDyne.com and maybe I can help.

Re:Ghettodyne 2.2.1 w/ boost officially working

xjoe: This is a variant of George's code plugged into the Ghettodyne code. Now you get george's digital cut of the MAP sensor voltage, and all the groovy features of Ghettodyne.

xtensive: Great idea, I'd love to have a database of tunes and the setups they are tuned for.

EVERYBODY: You want somebody else to burn you a Ghettoboost chip? Buyer beware. Everybody's setup is a little different, everybody's engine runs a little different. You won't have any way to fiddle the tune if it isn't working right. A Batronix Eprommer 3.3 kit, software, and shipping is available for under a bill, why not just buy it for yourself, and tune/chip your friends' cars to make your money back, and save yourself a tuning nightmare with a generic turbo chip.
