Re:Anybody wanna teach me how to use a Batronix burner?
Dr. boost... listen..(or read, wise *** )
ok.. Epromer5 is used to WRITE your fuel/timing maps to the chip. Thats all it does. You use ghettodyne to modify those fuelmaps and timing maps.
step by step... first..
- make a back up copy of the bin file you are messing with
- open ghettodyne (or similar program)
- load BIN file that you want to mess with (josephs?)
- edit away (tune)
- save bin file
- insert blank chip into that ugly electronic card thingy (yes, technical term)
- open batronix software.
- open bin file you changed
- write to chip
- plug chip into ecu
- start car.
anything else man? Like you said.. I believe ghettodyne only works w/ obd0. (pm6)

you can use batronix to change the code also. That is what started it all. then people were able to write software that made it easy for you. Its just a matter of learning what cells in progstudio do what.

Do you still have the afc? if so here is what you do.. The old version of erm is free and its on the pgmfi board.. it does not work with boost. So you set your hack up like before.. Then modify your timing maps so they not all fubar. Thats will give you a good setup.. This is what joseph is still doing.

Re:Anybody wanna teach me how to use a Batronix burner?
Epromer5 != Batronix Eprommer v3.x
Dr Boost was my test guinnea pig for D15B7 maps in Uberchips tuner. I've got him a second chip in the mail (as of Monday morning) to replace his fubar one, and I've been putting him off on the Batronix Prog-Studio becuase i haven't had a moment to myself in the past week.
Anyway.
Prog-Studio is a full featured development platform for any number of microcontrollers - it has assembler/dissassembler, hex editor, and is incorporated with the chip burning function. While I use hex editors and such, an automotive hobbyist worried about getting his ---- running needs only worry about Prog-Studio's chip burning function.
The first time you go into Prog-Studio, you need to set it up for what you are going to do. Follow these instructions:
- Open Prog-Studio
- Drop down the "Programmer" menu on the menu bar across the top of the window.
- Prog-studio 5.21/5.22's first option is "Choose programmer and chip." Select this. *note: those of you running 5.17 - or 5.13, shame on you - have two seperate menus from which you choose the burner/programmer and chip seperately*
- Choose your burner type, which is e(E)prommer, and version (mine is 3.2, most new ones are 3.3).
- Choose your chip type - for 99% of you guys it is either 27C256 or 29C256. The 27's are the UV erasable OR OTP chips. FYI, OTP means you can only burn the chip once, and it can't be reused. The 29's are the flash chips that the burner can erase and reprogram in a matter of seconds.
- After selecting all that junk, you get a pop up window with a picture of how to set the jumpers on your Eeprommer. Well, don't sit there, set them!
You are now ready to burn a chip.
- Open your ready to burn .bin file
- Ignore the hexadecimal numbers. When/if you need a hex editor, you can use it as such, but don't worry about it.
- Hit CTRL-B (or use the option in the "Programmer" pull down menu) and the burning dialog box opens.
- Prog-Studio automatically checks your IC to see if it is blank for you.
- Choose "start" to burn the chip
- Prog-Studio burns and then verifies the data
You are now ready to install your chip in the ECU.
It is a good thing to note that errors at 0 hex/0 dec are signs that you don't have power going to your burner - or sometimes it's an old/bad EPROM and is broken.
As far as the tuner app you use to tune your ECU with, in Dr. Boost's case it is Uberdata. Since you confirmed my P06 tune it should be no problem cutting you a 2-3 day test serial once you have a pile of chips in hand and want to play with it. Drop me a line when you get some blank chips in and want to play - I don't think I took enough fuel out of your reburn/retune's idle, but the rest should be good.

Re:Anybody wanna teach me how to use a Batronix burner?
Ok. I think I'm starting to understand this a bit better. I was thinking I needed to use the crazy list of numbers that pop up when you open the prog studio software.
Where do i get the Uberdata software? That stuff is written in english right? Something I can understand? I'm going to order some chips and see what happens.
When you say "- Open your ready to burn .bin file" do you mean the file that I save from the Uberdata file? I would create the fual maps and everything in Uberdata and transfer that to the prog studio and burn that to the chip? Please say this is correct. I hope I learned something.
Thanks for the help guys.

Cool. So where do I get the Uberdata software? I have been searching everywhere and can't seem to find it. I did find your(Todd) post in Honda-Tech about this software and how it worked for you. I was going to send you an IM over there until I found out you were the same person helping me over here. :P

Re:Anybody wanna teach me how to use a Batronix burner?
Do we need an easier to use OBD1 editor? (Obviously without boost)
Tell me the features you all want in your editor and I'll throw something together if it's really needed.
I'm still working on my OBD0 editor. It's almost done.

Does anybody know where I can get/buy the Uberdata software?
