Default My new setup - top mount t3/t04e with pics in a D16

Hey guys,

Finished up my project last weekend. Here are the specs. Your comments are welcome.

-t3/t04e turbo - I know it is big but got it for cheap
-Authentic Tial 38mm wastegate with .7bar spring
-1g DSM blow off valve
-CCA 6" intercooler painted black
-450cc DSM injectors
-running Turbo Edit and wideband tuned using LM1
-Walbro 255 pump in tank
-custom made 2.5" intercooler piping using mandrel bends
-used vibrant 4 ply silicone couplers throughout the whole setup.

Overall, I thought it turned out very well. I had to get a 92 civic half rad due to fitment issues. Has one hell of a gangsta lean on it but it works. I also have to install the coolant reservoir on the left side of the engine bay somehow. There is also a lot of rattling from the radiator and the top of the turbo hitting the hood. The up pipe I made also rubs the front crossmember when I stand on it.

The only issue I'm really having is that the turbo might be too damn big. Making about 4psi at 5500rpm. It is an A/R .50 turbo but I do have a very small exhaust leak where the downpipe attaches to the turbo - there is 1 bolt that is almost completely un-reachable - I need to make a custom 12mm wrench to tighten that damn one. Other than that, no leaks, no problems whatsoever. This is my daily driver and I need to get more boost out of it. If i can fix that exhaust leak and I'm still making only 4psi, I'm going to get another turbo. I had my previous setup that I sold to someone and that pulled really hard compared to this.

Anyhoo, on to the pics. Your comments are welcome.

EJ

i was gonna ask how the spool was w/ that manifold setup... but it appears you need to sort out some problems before you can give a real answer. I was considering some kind of header reuse solution myself at one point.

Looks pretty good!

I have one of those stock manifolds in my garage, maybe I should fab up a top mount for it!

I've wondered how that turbo does on d series engines. That's pretty much the standard eBay T3/o4e.

Why did you decide to go with the EG 1/2 rad over the Neon radiator? Just wondering.

nice ------ rigged wastegate; why'd you use an internal hole for an external gate

especially considering you fabbed the mani adaptor, why not throw the WG somewhere normal?

Well, the full rad has absolutely NO clearance - had to use the half rad - and that just makes it. To be honest, I haven't even seen what a Neon rad looks like.

I didn't even think about it till I had plasma cut the flanges off the turbo and figures - what the hell, just do it. If I can't get this boost issue sorted, I'm going to redo the downpipe and move the wastegate to the up pipe.

Honestly Jago, the guagues work really well for me. I love that the glove box closes and the car looks bone stock. The stealth factor over-rode everything for me. My previous civic had all the guages and a pillar pods and all that crap - looked great and very easy to read but the car was a heat score - broken into 3 times and finally stolen and stripped. Won't go through that again. I want everything to look bone stock from now on.

Are you running this the t3t04e on a d16 as well?? What A/R is your compressor?? same as mine?? I thought that I would be able to spool this turbo and get atleast 10psi by 5000 rpm. It is starting to bother me. I'm going to make this work somehow. I've seen guys running bigger turbos on d motors like holset and the big garrett stuff. Just have to keep at it I guess.
