Default Ball Joints

I need to replace my upper ball joint on my 90 civic HB. My question is do i have to buy the whole upper control arm or just the bolt part. Only the bolt and boot part are broke but someone told me once that you couldnt sepatet bolt from control arm. Thanks

you can buy just the ball joint and not the control arm.
take it to a shop to get it pressed out. there is a ball joint tool that can get it out also but can be expensive.

The cheapest route would be to just get the ball joint and either 1.-have a shop press it out of the arm for you, or 2.-rent the ball joint tool from auto zone for like 50 bux. You do get your money back when you return the tools intact, so it's not a big deal. I just replaced both my uppers, and didn't realize they had the tool to press the joints out, and ended up paying $65 a side for the complete upper arm with ball joints. Big waste considering just the ball joints only costs around $16 a side

i installed that whole kit (both ball joints, tie rods, sway bar links, upper controll arm) and it's sooooooooo easy to just put a new upper control arm in. it's only held in by 2 bolts
