Hi guys i have a turbo off a 93 chevy 6.5L and want to see if it would work on a 5.7l tbi gas chevy 88 truck

 

would work great for a low boost (under 10 PSI) setup. Past that, the GM8 (that's the model of turbo you have, built by IHI for GM) becomes very inefficient. 10 PSI would be more enough to make a boatload of torque though.

shockj, yes you need to hook it up to exhaust for it to work, you may be in a little over your head if you don't already know that. I would suggest that you do some serious research and invest time in understanding the fundamentals of how a turbocharger works and all the required modifications to make a turbo setup work properly and not damage the motor. There is a lot that goes into a turbo setup, it's not just bolt on a turbo and go, you WILL blow up the motor if you dont know what you're doing. So don't set yourself up for failure, do the homework before you start any turbo project, I suggest you start by reading the stickies in the forced induction forum. Good luck to you.

 

10psi would be way over 100hp gain on a V8 motor of your size.
