Some problems with my turbo setup. Plz Help. NSFW
Hi I have a few problems I needed help trouble shooting before I go get a dyno tune. Havent really drove it since I installed the kit. Just many starts and idles and small pulls from 1st to 2nd up and down my alley. Car idles well but I really havent had a chance to drive it on the street due to not being registered.
1. Exhaust Leak between turbo and turbo manifold. Im using a steel gasket right now between the two but I notived puffs of exhaust coming out the front. I heard copper sealant works and even just not using a gasket all together is also a good alternative. Any one experience this before? Is my downpipe pulling my turbo down? Can preturbo exhaust leaks cause a rich condition?
2.Car is running pig rich. Im blaming my basemap for that or my exhaust leak. My spark plugs (NGK 7s gapped to .30) are BLACK all over.
3.Car smokes pretty bad @ idle. I dont have a wideband to check AFRs right now because im poor. Im running a -3AN to a small restrictor as the feed line so I shouldnt be pushing through the seals. Im running Mobil Syn 10w-30. Does being rich cause smoke? I cant really tell what color the smoke is. More white then anything. Car isnt over heating or losing coolant.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
oh ya the best part.

If the gasket isn't cutting it, then copper seal isn't going to help much. You will probably need to have your turbine housing or manifold flange plained down to be perfectly flat by a machine shop. If you are using a stainless or tubular steel style header, the culprit is probably the outlet flange on the manifold.
If your turbo bolts are not staying tight, you need to solve that problem ASAP and I will explain the reason for that in my last sentence.
It is likely that a pre-turbine exhaust leaks is causing a rich condition and it will also cause a performance condition so it is best to do all that you can to fix the problem now.
Pre-turbine exhaust leaks are what my guys call "pain the *** headaches" and that is why you need to fix it or the car will not run right no matter how much you want to dick around with it.

well what happens is those pulls you made might have fucked up a ring from blowby and your pcv can cause problems at idle if it is not in working order specially once you made some pulls and ---- all it takes is a few times in boost with a shitty pcv systam to ---- your ---- up
