Z6 Block w/ Y8 Head

Ok so the other day I picked up a Z6 block and Y8 head for $50. The plan is to toss it in to my 90 Si but there is only one problem, I have no ------- clue where to start. I have swapped stock motors out in several different cars but when it comes to swapping a different motor I am clueless and I figured this would be a good place to start. Besides putting the motor in and all of that bullshit, what am I going to need to make this work? I am just trying to get all of my bases covered before I put it in and get way over my head with stupid bullshit I decided to ignore before I started.

The z6 bottom is pretty much setup the same way as your stock a6 block, biggest difference is the temp sensor is moved to the thermostat housing so you need to extend that plug. The y8 head will bolt on to the z6 block no problem, and your stock a6 dizzy will bolt right on to the y8 head as well. It's pretty much just a straight forward swap, just like changing a stock motor. Just remember to swap in your obd0 injectors, and all your wiring should be fine since it's an Si. As for vtec activation, well that's up to you how you want to do it. Could go old-school with the toggle switch to activate it, or drop a butt-load of money for a vafc, or do a vtec ecu swap. All up to you on how much work you really want to put in it.

you didnt say anything about ecu, but i always assume obd1, you need a conversion harness. also, the timing is differant when using z6/y minime. i think its 4° off one way.

So for the most part whatever didnt come with my z6 block and y8 head I should just snatch off of my a6?

are you going to turbo or run n/a?
if n/a, then just put the y8 head on the a6.
but since ur on hmt, then the z6 pistons will yield a lower c/r.

Well for the moment I am broke so it will definately be a few months before I can afford to turbo it, that and I have a dsm that pretty much owns my wallet. I will probably just toss in a set of ZC pistons to bump up the compression and give it a little bit of pep for now, its all going in my daily driver which I drive about 150 miles a day so I need to keep it good on gas but wouldnt mind having a bit more pep, that and my a6 has over 200k on the clock :6

Yeah...you're right...almost forgot about that one. Been awhile since i built a D-series ;D Get an adjustable gear if you want to bring cam timing back to where it should be, or use a y7 gear (I believe...not 100% anymore) for the cheapo side.

and dont forget when using an 88-95 block and a Y head the head stud/bolt nearest to the vtec solenoid has to be shorter.

D-series head studs are block-specific, where B-series are head-specific.

Most people learn B-series because it's Hyped and fluent, then ASSume for D-series... when they find out otherwise, they still think in head-specific terms "except that one bolt." Uh-uh.

Ok so im going to need a set of z6 head bolts, and I have just one more question, I looked around and from what I have seen a z6 block w/ y8 head and zc dome pistons is gonna make a stupid hight compression ratio, anybody able to confirm this so I know what I am getting in to.
