whats differant on new civic engine?
i havnt actually looked under the hood of a new civic..but dont they have 1.7 liter engines now? if so is it still a D series with a differant crank/rod/bore change? im wondering if the internal components are the same to bump a 1.6 y8 up a little..

Its not a K motor, it still is the D-series style (in a way) they had a good thread about this on the resource, The intake/exhaust port config on the head is the same, The bore size I think is the same as well, its all made up in the crankshaft.

so if its still a D-series..you can drop the crank into an older one to raise the displacement..i work for a dealership that owns a Honda dealer..so i get stuff at employee cost..want to build up my Y8 in the future..thought it might be a good idea

No, the bore size of the journals are probably differnt, just like D15 and D16 cranks are not swapable.
The d17 crank may have the same journal size, but who really knows, until someone tears one apart..

ill have to talk to the honda techs about that..maybe if im really lucky( ya right) theyll have a warranty or bad one..or maybe you can take the bottom end and swap a y8 head onto it?

That is also a possibility, but Not sure if the head configurations are the same, you could buy a head gasket and see if it align's the same to your y8 head. Also the alternator is mounted in the front on that block, so some ---- is going to have to be modified.
Then who even knows if the bell housing patterns are the same for your transmission?..
lots of factors, and nobody will really know for sure unless they have one out of the car, compared side by side.
