Statistics do say most jdm b16a's won't pass emissions. Has something to do with c/r being slightly higher most of the time, and the ecu timing. Usually like stated, a usdm motor and a very good cat will get you passed.

Statistics out of your *** OR idiots. Both aren't really gonna get the motor to pass emissions.

Even a B18C passes emissions no problem with even higher comp ration, a B16A ain't ----.

Mehh, was something I read on the web late one night. Was from some performance shop in Cali. I guess from a couple years ago. They did a run of a few obdo first gen b16a's compared to obd1's and usdm versions. Supposedly most of the obd0 first gen's failed for high NOx levels, but second gen's were passing with a better rate, and almost all the usdm engine's passed.

Well there was a shop a buddy of mine ran in San Jose hybrid auto all his swaps were bar reffed and smogged

It wasnt cheap but it was legal and yes plenty of b16a pass the sniffer fine

8+years ago a car that failed really bad was brought to me. I did basic tune up,new cat,set timing and got the car uber hot

passed with flying colors this was a 1st gen b16a

2ndly my dohc zc passed without issue has well actually if I can find the print out this was around 6 years ago it was some of the lowest #'s the smog tech had seen

Nothing changes about a b16a really between the generations besides o2 sensor location which most obdo ones fail due to people not locating the 2nd 02 in the correct position or if the go legit with the usdm p30 they do the same thing with the single

2ndly the only other differences externally are vacuum lines which sadly most people run wrong and yes it affect things in a smog test especially the old school rats nest on the obdo manifolds

I dont know how many cars I have seen with people tapping into the map sensor for a vacuum source and wondering why the car runs odd

Real Life owns and yes they pass
