what to buy for stock rebuild

Re: what to buy for stock rebuild
You don't need to see boost to detonate. Those bearings you linked to have been FUCKED by detonation, yamming the top half of the bearing down into your crank. Was there a lot of carbon build up in the chamber? That can artificially bump CR and cause pingies... although most LS are incapable of detonation, those heads are funny like that. It's super odd this happened to you.
Honda cranks never never never never crack. Well, anything's possible so I'm sure it has happened, but I never hear of it. However, you have definitely hurt the crank if you heard a rapping noise. Send the crank to a machinist, or just find a replacement.
You need crank (fixed?), bearings, pistons, rings, and I really recommend you hone the block. Water pump is optional if it looks good and spins freely - just remember it's super likely to fail and keep an eye on it dripping from the weep hole every oil change! - but every fresh engine needs a fresh oil pump.
