Yeah TT rods FTW. Too much machine work for this setup to work (LS/Vitara)

Not if the rods are free, and you are using GX pistons. So, el cheapo ZC upgrade or NA D16 duty. Aside from myself and chris, I don't think anyone who logs onto this site would ever need to bother when they are going for a FI build where a TT rod makes sense.

Awe come on JD, My D15B made 302whp on 91 **** gas with LS/Vitara's.

Free rods, $70 for bushings and machining, $120 Vitara's, that's far less that TT's right there. Add in $30 for some ARPs, and now you could probably be safe spinning to 8500.

There's a thread in GD where a gentleman picked up forged rods and pistons for $200.

LS rods are fine to 8500 rpms, with stock rod bolts and an 84mm piston. It was both Belben and Rocket's opinion an LS rod D16 would be good to 9500, good luck getting the head to flow for the last 1000 rpms.

$30 bucks for safety isn't bad. Long term, LS rods will give. Lightweight 84mm?

Their estimates are too high. An LS weighs has more inertia than a D16 rod, and at 9500, a D16 will spin bearings. A D15 stroke maybe.

I currently run it to 8200 on a stock head. And yes stock heads flow like ----. A nice cammed and ported head, and I would've been looking at least 340.

OEM piston, B20/VTEC. It was one of the first year ECHC engines and everything in it is OEM. 187 whp, 8500 rpms, after it became obsolete when they changed the rules dude pulled it from his racecar and dropped it into his 97 HX and proceeded to beat on it. It's about six years old, has 80K on it, and revs to 8500 daily. I'm sure they will give out eventually, though.

Maxie-san, I have yet to see a rod break that wasn't related to a mechanical over rev or oil pump failure that welded the big end to the crank; that 300 whp stock B16/LS and 350 whp stock GSR rule of thumb stuff is all related to stock piston-wall clearances, and if you set that loose I'm pretty sure a whole lot more is possible on a "stock" engine. The piston will always be weak if detonated on, but the OEM carbon drop forged rod is a mild form of excellence.
