Turbo KA sputters under load. HELP!!

Default Turbo KA sputters under load. HELP!!

My car is finally running, but poorly. It's a built KA-t with msd 50lb injectors and a safc

first off my boost gauge only says 10" of vac at idle and it should be at 20. I tried the boost leak tester and i didn't find anything. What else could lead to low vacuum?

second, when you try to rev the engine up at all it just dies. i've gotten it up to like 1.5k with like 2% throttle, but any more and it dies.

the safc was all set up for my old sohc ka with 450's. besides leaning the injectors out a bit, is there anything else I should have changed between sohc and dohc?

sounds like you have a major timing issue. check to make sure it didn't jump a tooth or that your dizzy is in the correct spot. also the safc could be messing with stuff if you messed up the map wires

SOHC & DOHC have different MAF's, and IIRC different sized stock injectors (DOHC is smaller if im right).

I would of ran the engine with a stock setup first and then tossed the turbo stuff on just to get it to run right.

Run stock maps. Similar setting yeild different results in different cars/motors. There are always exceptions...but yours wasn't that luck...and this isn't the case. Its pretty simple. Just retune! You can only go up from stock. Check your btdc mark and watch as the rpms go up...let us know where it is. Does it misfire at idle or around the 1k-2k mark. If so..you're in trouble.

yeah dude, keep the turbo on and ---- but run everything else stock, injectors, ecu, maf... get idleing out smooth then start to get it ready for boost. u could be only hitting 10vac because of to much fuel at idle... when idle is smooth and perfect it peaks 20 vac at idle... if its a rough and rich idle. it'll be less vac

i dont have many stock parts still, so its going to be hard to put them back on.

if the injectors were the wrong impedance, what would that be like?


my in/outs for the safc are 5 for the stock maf.. is that correct?

I'm going to go over my wiring... if i had the brown and black on the wrong ecu ground could that be my problem?

i have the stock fpr on a top feed fuel rail, could that be screwing me?

lastly... isnt vacuum just made by the intake stroke of the engine? how can a bad idle affect it?

Go over your wiring
make sure the grounds are in the right place
What we meant was...low boost to not overkill your turbo and motor...use stock settings...reset the afc to stock config...so you know its not a tuning problem...listen for knocking, check timing, watch the a/f ratio and watch the smoke from the exhast for colors. I know you have to be blowing colorful smoke.

smoke actually wasn't colorful as far as I can tell. ill check my ground and wiring again. and I will be going easy on this motor.during break in.

last thing... base timing is 20 btdc... I put it at about 25 because ill be running 10 pounds before I get.some timing control. .. that shouldn't be the cause of this right?

mess with it and find out. get everything to stock and go from there
